Bele Bele Rhthym Collective
The Bele Bele Rhythm Collective was originally founded in 2008 by Drumlady Kristen Arant. At the time, Kristen was running the third summer program for her non-profit, the Young Women’s Drumming Empowerment Project (YWDEP, founded 2005), whose mission was to use drumming, poetry, movement, song and performance to uplift young women’s voices, and empower their authentic selves.
The program started out as just a summer program, but the powerful performances featuring the young women each year brought audiences to their feet, and led to the group being asked to perform at events. So Kristen reached out to the broader community, to find women who were drummers or who wanted to commit themselves to learning how to play.
This began the diverse, intergenerational ensemble that we call Bele Bele Rhythm Collective, the name an homage to one of Kristen’s most influential teachers, Mamady Keita, who composed a rhythm of the same name, which means “Big Personality.”

Caleb Stine can guarantee he’s got a song just for you. The Colorado native plays over 130 shows a year, has opened for artists like Jason Isbell, Sierra Hull, and Los Lobos, and just released his fifteenth album of original music. Flying just below the mainstream radar, Stine attributes the city of Baltimore with his 20+ year music career. He keeps a grass-roots presence by frequenting small venues up and down the East Coast and passing on a rallying cry of hope to audiences both big and small. As Americana UK writes, ‘Stine’s upfront personality is seeking to make a personal connection with everyone in the venue.’ The songs from hi latest album ‘Nickels and Dimes’ are snapshots of his life these days as a working musician, new father and wanna-be cowboy – but there’s something there for everyone. At once accessible and intimate, the collection embodies one of Stine’s deeply held beliefs: “Just like each flower’s held up by a stem, everyone needs a song just for them.” Catch a Caleb Stine show and find one waiting for you.
