Congratulations to the 2025 Outstanding Citizen – Robert Goldberg-Strassler!
Every Greenbelt resident knows someone who distinguishes themself with exceptional volunteer service, often without the recognition they deserve. Volunteerism is the essence of the Greenbelt community. Since 1973 each Festival includes recognition of that year’s Outstanding Citizen. The Outstanding Citizen is announced during a Friday evening ceremony at the start of the Labor Day Festival. They receive prizes from local businesses, their name goes on a permanent plaque in the Community Center, and they serve as the Labor Day Parade Grand Marshal.
Nominees must be volunteers; elected officials and paid employees are not eligible. If you know someone whose efforts stand out in one or more community organizations, who shows concern for others, and who demonstrates cooperation, enthusiasm, and leadership. Nominations close at the end of July.
